For head baker Pam Ambercrombie, meals served at the Greenbriar Mall location of Piccadilly Restaurant in Atlanta often feel like family gatherings, because in many ways, they are. Her father worked at the location, along with numerous siblings and relatives.

Since joining the team 45 years ago ‒ “45 and counting,” she clarifies ‒ Ambercrombie has watched generations of guests and employees grow up together.

“This has always been something I liked. I love to cook. I come from a cooking family,” she says. “Things might change over the years, but I still love going to work. It’s a good place to be.”

She started in 1974 in the dish room, working her way up as a waitress and line server. Eventually, she moved to the kitchen as a fry cook, vegetable cook and preparing salads. She’s spent the past 30 years in the bake shop, turning out desserts and breads.

“My favorite thing to make is egg custard and sweet potato pie,” Ambercrombie says.

And yes, she does cook at home, as well. Her perfect Sunday dinner menu: homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes, cabbage, cornbread and yams.
